These three boys, probably 10 or 11 years old were doing anything to avoid looking at me. I dont know if they were scared or not, but they were most definitely wondering who this crazy lady was that chewed them out for throwing a snowball. Sheesh it was just a snowball for crying out loud.

According to Dr. Paulette Kouffman Sherman, author of Dating from the Inside Out and director of My Dating School in Manhattan, single moms should take consistent action towards their goal of meeting someone.
They should make it a point to get childcare once or twice a week during which time they should attend singles events or set up online dates. They should also put the word out to everyone they know that they're ready to find a great mate.
5. Take a class
It can be a win-win to take a class that you love and to meet new people in the process, says Dr. Kouffman Sherman. Since single moms are always giving to others, it can be rewarding to do something fun every week that's just for them and get out of the house and mingle with other adults.
6. Look for other single moms to lend support:
Dr. Kouffman Sherman advises single moms to create their very own single mom support network. Attending single events together and trading off sharing babysitting duties will give them an opportunity to not only go out more often but will also help them stay focused on their romance goals.
7. Talk to your child
If your kids are old enough, Dr. Kouffman Sherman says it's important to let them know that even though you go out sometimes to meet friends, you are always available by phone and they are still your priority.
Single moms should only introduce their child to dates when it becomes exclusive and serious. Otherwise it can become confusing for a child to have a carousel of potential suitors to meet and they may get attached and disappointed when it does not work out.

Translation....the physio had said that swimming would help my annoying shoulder problem, and as I had been tossing round the idea of doing the swim and run section of a tri, I thought I should attempt a bit of a paddle. So Sunday afternoon I trotted off to the pool for my first swim in nearly 4 years.
I did 1.5k before my arm and shoulder started to hurt, but I was amazed at how easy it was to get back in the rhythm. Fully warmed up at the 600 metre mark then up, down, up, down for another 1k, I'd forgotten how relaxing I find swimming, I used to refer to it as my yoga.
There was only one tiny wee problem, and that is - I've gotten so used to doing cardio with my music plugged in (forever grateful Cactus) that I missed my tunes as I was splashing my way around. I'm now perusing the web to find an underwater iPod, along with checking to see if there are any new products at another favourite store.
When I was playing pool later in the day I did however recall the downside of swimming and that is residual water in the ears. However, as I playing with the old fulla's at the local, the sight of me bashing my head regularly to try and release the water didn't unnerve them at all, as I just fitted in with all the other tics and odd body movements displayed by some of the other oddball regulars.
Which leads me to another issue and that I am about to ring and complain about the bar staff at the local. Atilla the Barmaid and Mike the Pom no longer work there, and at one point my pool date and I did not feel safe. The bar staff had let two punters get intoxicated, then when they challenged us to pool there was no staff member around seeing that we were ok, just the old fulla's keeping an eye on things. Not Good Enough.

Sex-Positive Evangelicals? Oh, Yes

We all know that the growing evangelical movement is one (with a few left-leaning pockets exempted) obsessed with sex. Controlling it. Punishing it. Using it to control women. Stomping out most versions of it completely. Shaming people who enjoy it. And now, believe it or not, promoting it as an important part of healthy marriages.
Wait, come again? Sex-positive evangelicals? Well, sort of. While they're not bringing in enough numbers to drown out the dominant attitude of shaming, there does seem to be a trend in the evangelical community of promoting more and better sex within marriage -- for the good of the marriages. There are now Christian sex shops, Christian sex advice columns, and Christian sex blogs. Most of it is tame compared to secular counterparts, but the fact that it exists at all gives pause to those of us who spend quite a bit of time wrangling with evangelicals who want to ban abortion, restrict contraception, put virginity rings on girls, and teach nothing but abstinence-until-marriage.
But should this trend surprise us? Upon further reflection, the whole thing makes perfect sense. One of the favorite selling points for abstinence-only, reiterated endlessly by abstinence-only "educators," is that waiting until marriage means that the sex will be even better, with the implication often being that it works seamlessly without the learning period the rest of us have to go through, and that it's so hot that others couldn't even imagine it. (It's a false promise -- just listen to reports from couples who waited, only to find out that they had compatibility issues. But it's never been beyond fundamentalists to treat the truth as disposable in pursuit of a larger agenda.) Evangelicals have an investment in making sure that married sex is hot, so they can push the abstinence-only line with more confidence.
But there's another aspect to it that's even more important--people come to evangelical churches because they need help running their lives, and if the churches want to keep members, they need to offer that help. In fact, one of the most remarkable aspects of the modern evangelical movement is how self-help-y it is. Matt Taibbi discovered this when he went undercover at James Hagee's San Antonio megachurch. Most of the work done in the church borrowed heavily from the dreck of the self-help world, except with demons thrown in as a twist. Certainly Rick Warren has exploited the melding of Christianity with the self-help section of the bookstore with his book "The Purpose-Driven Life," which, from the title alone, sounds just like a self-help book.
Since the evangelical movement is basically competing with self-help for an audience, it makes sense that they'd have to branch out into one of the most popular forms of self-help, which is advice on how to make sex better inside relationships. This kind of thing isn't exactly new to evangelical Christianity. In the 70s, the right wing power couple Beverly and Tim LaHaye co-authored a sex manual that at least said female orgasms were important -- but scolded people who used the popular oral sex method to get there. Modern sex-positive evangelicals are a lot more open-minded about oral sex, I discovered as I perused various Christian websites.
What I found in my research was a surprising diversity in attitudes about what sex acts were acceptable, though a shared fondness for obsessing over the potential sinfulness of each act. Of all the people pushing the "more sex for marrieds" message, I found Joy Wilson, who owns the sex shop Book 22, the most pleasant person who really seemed happy to be helping people have more and better sex. Like the rest of the sites I read, Book 22 had the same nit-picking "sin or not?" specificity--dildos are out--but on the whole, her website sells the same kind of products that feminist sex shops do, with the same goal of making sure that women are getting as much pleasure out of sex as men do. She blogs about sex in a blunt, generous style that I found appealing.
The Marriage Bed is co-authored by a married couple, and while it's refreshingly positive about things like oral sex and even spanking, it's homophobic and sexist, like pretty much all the sites I visited. Women are characterized as wanting more snuggles and men as wanting more sex, and it's not even hinted that it might be reversed in some marriages, or even that snuggles might not be a chore for some men. What I found most amusing was their acceptance of fantasy was contingent upon making sure that you only fantasized about sex between married people. Like most of the sites, they demonstrate hostility towards female-controlled hormonal contraception.
Christian Nymphos had a refreshingly explicit nature, which is what people go to sex advice websites for. If you don't have details, you haven't learned enough to do it yourself. Unlike Book 22 or the Marriage Bed, they don't seem to have any problems with dildos or anal sex, so point in their favor. Like Book 22, they consider their mission mainly to make sex more fun for women, who they assume have strong sexual desires. They even avoid the fear-mongering about female-controlled hormonal contraception. Despite refreshingly sex-positive views, though, they maintained the same disappointing levels of sexism, telling women to suck it up if they are left unsatisfied by sex or promoting female submission as romance.
What I discovered was that women's influence on the message made it, if far from perfect and often downright offensive, much more positive than the sex advice and help that came straight from male ministers. By contrast, look at Paul Wirth of the Relevant Church, who recently made headlines with his 30 day sex challenge. Unlike the female-run sites that thrived more on suggestions and discussion, the 30 day sex challenge comes across like a dictate. You're to have sex (if you're married, of course) for 30 days whether you're in the mood or not. The reason Wirth gives for this is unsurprisingly sexist: "Every man's fantasy: 30 days of sex!" "Every woman's dream: 30 days of intimacy!" This idea--that the sex part of sex is for men, and women just want the intimacy--threads through many sites, unsurprisingly showing up more when men are doing more of the writing. The challenge just struck me as another way to use sex as a tool to control, the flip side of abstinence-only.
Minister Mark Driscoll of Seattle is positively obsessed with sex, and belongs to this category, even though there's something unnerving about it. A big proponent of wifely submission, and just generally bagging on women (Driscoll blamed Ted Haggard's wife Gayle for Ted's infidelities with male prostitutes, claiming that she had let herself go), Driscoll also offers a video series in which he answers people's questions about sex. These videos are pretty hard to take, since he's arrogant and pushy and just a little too interested in what's going on in the bedrooms of his parishioners for comfort.
I suspect if the pro-sex movement in Christianity starts to really take off, we're going to see more men like Driscoll take over, and the control will be wrested away from the women who are currently out there writing a kinder, gentler form of evangelical sex advice.

According to Dr. Fulbright, the following is a list of the top 10 bedroom blunders that men need to avoid if they want to become great lovers:
--Thinking that foreplay starts in the sack.
--Going south too soon.
--Ignoring the clitoris.
--Missing the G spot.

--Gaining weight and still thinking you're attractive.
--Not knowing about her need to be naughty.
--Thinking she's supposed to act like a porn star.
--Thinking you're supposed to look like a porn star.

Ok, now let us take a moment to briefly address each of the items on the list above:
Thinking that foreplay starts in the sack: Women enjoy romance and seduction so it is important for a man to warm her up before heading to the bedroom. Make her want to have sex with you first.
Going south too soon: Men often think its a matter of getting her undressed and starting right away by giving her oral sex. Slow down! Most women prefer to be aroused before heading to her place. It is usually best to start with passionate embraces, fondling and kissing before heading south.
Ignoring the clitoris: (I prefer referring to it as the clitoris) Too often men mistakenly think that sexual penetration is the best way to bring her to the big O. Like the head of a mans penis, the clitoris is a womans primary orgasmic trigger and should not be ignored during intimacy.
Missing the G spot: Some guys believe that the G-spot is a mythical place because most dont know where it really is. First of all, it does exist but forget trying to find it unless she is already aroused. According to Dr. Yvonne Fullbright, it is Found on the front wall of the vagina, a womans G spot may be a little higher or lower, or more to one side than the other, than often depicted. Its size may also vary, from as small as a pea to as large as a quarter.
Becoming too goal-oriented in your efforts: Unfortunately, there is a high percentage of men who are far too focused on their technique, performance and personal pleasure. A man should be attentive to his partners needs as well as his own which will ultimately lead to the mutual satisfaction of both of you.
Gaining weight and still thinking you're attractive: Sure, being chiseled and buffed isnt everything but at the same time men should do their best to not become too overweight. Just as most men prefer a woman who is physically fit the same goes for womens preference as well. Try to avoid major weight fluctuations.
Not knowing about her need to be naughty: Sure, most women prefer romance leading up to sex but when it comes down to itwomen love to be naughty too. Thats right. During the actual act of foreplay and sex, women tend to be more aroused by explicit fantasies more than the softer more romantic ones. Allow her to let her hair down and explore her more side.
Thinking she's supposed to act like a porn star: Dr. Fullbright points out that men should: Remember that porn is fantasy, not reality. Expecting her to act like a porn star is simply not fair. There are some things your partner simply may not want to do and should not be pushed to do them.
Thinking you're supposed to look like a porn star: This refers to men thinking they need to be extremely well endowed to satisfy a woman to her fullest. This is just not true. Most women prefer a man whose genital size fits within the norm and knows how to use it. The fact is that men with an unusually large package may be a novelty to some but, in many cases, oversized male genitalia can cause pain to many women during intercourse.
Believing one orgasm is enough: For some women it may be but many more dont want the sexual pleasure to end after she climaxes. The level of arousal in women normally does not subside as quickly as after a man has an orgasm. Many women are multi-orgasmic and are not fully satisfied unless they have two or more orgasms. As Dr. Fullbright states, Even if youre exhausted, dont rule out Round 2. There are other ways of pleasing her, so go ahead and do it all over again.

Can your online love interest only talk after 1am? Do they offline even when theyre not at work? For some people this may be normal, however, you should always ask and be able to ask without fear of reprisal.
